A Gua Sha treatment is a healing technique that acupuncturists use to stimulate the dermal fascia. With the help of a round-edged instrument, acupuncturists produce the appearance of pin-point bruises called petechiae or “sha.” Not to be alarmed, this type of "brusing" usually fades within 2-3 days.
Raising "sha" helps promote the movement of Qi and blood and alleviate adhered/"stuck" fascia. Furthermore, the use of gua sha encourages proper circulation and is a great adjunct modality to aid in alleviating pain and treating acute or chronic conditions.
*As I tell my patients at my Loveland Acupuncture Clinic: It is important to drink plenty of water after these treatments to help your lymphatic system flush any toxins that may have been released.
