Before we discuss Loveland Acupuncture and menopause to see how it helps, let's discuss the topic of menopause itself and what you may be experiencing…
Menopause and perimenopause, or as my 13 year old little brother calls it "the shift" (little boys are so silly), are terms that describe the termination of a woman's reproductive cycle and the symptoms that women experience as they "shift." This process can take anywhere from 4 months to 5 years and typically, though not absolutely, begins during your late 40s or early 50s.
The Chinese believe that a woman's life consists of Seven Year Cycles and at around the seventh seven year cycle (so 7 x 7 = 49), or age 49, menopause will ensue. This calculation is not far from the median age of 51, derived from survey of women in industrialized countries.
The major cause of the decline in reproductive ability lies in the ovaries themselves. We have heard or been told that we as women are born with our ovaries stocked full of all the eggs of our lifetime. So as we age, our ovarian follicles become very weakened because of the years and years of work, ejecting eggs at least 12 times a year - that's A LOT of work! How about a figure to give you a better picture...we start with roughly 6,000,000 primordial follicles as a fetus, that decreases to approximately 600,000 when we are born, then about 300,000 when we reach menarche and finally to just around 10,000 when we approach menopause.
So from the information I just provided, it's easy to see how biology has already "pre-decided" when we experience menopause but how we live our lives will determine how we experience this change. It is through our life style habits, especially the bad ones, that we create a negative effect on our body's physiology. In other words, this is how we "turn our highway lights Red." This negative effect can cause symptoms such as:
- Hot Flashes and/or Night Sweats
- Mood Swings
- Vagina Dryness
- Weight Gain
- Memory & Cognitive Changes
- Low Libido
…this is where acupuncture for your menopause symptoms can REALLY help.
Let's look at menopause on a hormonal level. As your follicular activity slows down and eventually stops, your body experiences a void of the hormone Estrogen. Without estrogen, your menstrual flow ceases as well. But you know what other hormone has an impact on your menstrual cycle and therefore your menopausal experience? If you guess Progesterone, then you are on top of your women's health studies! Progesterone is the hormone that is secreted by your corpus luteum after you ovulate, so when you stop ovulating with menopause, you stop secreting progesterone. That is where Western Medicine drops the ball...they place all the importance on the hormone estrogen, forgetting about poor old progesterone. And this is why for a therapeutic treatment, you will only be offered estrogen replacement therapy. For some, estrogen therapy is the right answer but for many others, it simply is not.
After all this information, why not Loveland Acupuncture and Menopause?!
I cannot say this idea enough, even beyond just Loveland Acupuncture and menopause, is that: "Everyone is different & unique, therefore everyone's healing needs will be different & unique just like them."
